Originally built as a car park, Peckham Levels inherited unique architectural features. Commissioned by Peckham Levels’ special projects programme, Playdate Office’s STEER LIFT GO is an interactive sculptural installation celebrating this heritage of the building, utilising its structural features in detail.

STEER LIFT GO is about how Peckham Levels’ innate structure shapes how we move within and experience the space. Addressing the relationship between space and motion, Playdate Office invites visitors to interact with the installation by pulling, pushing and manoeuvring.

The structural characteristics of three points of interest in Level 5 : the bent ramp, the wide staircase and the stretched corridor, and how we move within them, are a direct inspiration for the design of the three piece installation. Maximising the experience of motion was key to the design process.
